As the Spring Approaches, Downeast Maine Becomes Lively Once More
As the spring approaches and snow slowly melts, some of our favorite events are just around the corner! Springtime is a season for renewal here on Deer Isle. The flowers begin to blossom once more, and many seasonal guests and locals return to the island after a harsh winter. Pilgrim’s Inn opens its doors once more, and Main Street becomes lively once again!
Men Who Cook Deer Isle Benefit Dinner
One of our favorite March events is the Men Who Cook Deer Isle Benefit Dinner. This annual Seamark Community Arts fundraising event is a fun time for all! Located at the Deer Isle-Stonington High School, this benefit dinner showcases the talents of local men while raising money for a good cause. This fun event premiered back in 2005, when 30 enterprising, talented men from the island and surrounding communities created their favorite dishes for a hungry crowd on behalf of Seamark Community Arts. Since then, it has evolved into a larger, popular gathering with a variety of categories to rate (and savor)!
Cooks who enter receive a free pass and a commemorative tote bag, while tickets are just $15 per person at the door. After sampling dishes, diners in attendance will cast a vote for their favorite overall dish, best dessert, and best presentation. There will also be a raffle during the dinner featuring prizes from local businesses! All proceeds from the Men Who Cook Deer Isle Benefit Dinner will go toward Seamark’s art scholarship programs.
